Do you use maps? How often do you use them?
Well, not very often. I think, I mainly use maps whenever I travel to new places. Using maps when traveling would allow you to see the exact location of the place you are going to as well as access extra information about restaurants and hotels, which is really useful. You can even find the quickest route to reach any destination you desire. Actually, the last time I used one was about 5 years ago on my trip to Ha Giang.
Do you prefer paper or electronic maps?
Well, I definitely prefer using electronic maps. Most printed /physical maps are outdated/obsolete in my opinion, so, I don’t tend to use them. I actually prefer using Google maps on my phone and it even has a direction feature so I can use it like a satnav (satellite navigation). As well as this, I can zoom in to enlarge the map to see more details with just a simple touch on the phone, rather than holding a big map, which is indeed inconvenient.
How did you learn to read maps?
Well, at school, we were taught the basics of how to use a map and a compass during geography lesson. Also, we learnt to label the major cities of our country as well as fill some detailed information such as population and shared borders with other countries on a map. So, yeah, it’s probably how it helps us figure out maps back then.
Do you often ask strangers for directions?
Yes, definitely because to be honest with you, I’m pretty hopeless at directions myself!. Asking for directions especially when you are in the middle of nowhere, I think, is one of the most effective ways of finding out where something is. You know, directions from local people very often are much more comprehensive, precise and detailed.
