How do people become popular?

There are several aspects of becoming popular. Firstly, it’s important to have a heart of gold. I mean, you need to love helping people unconditionally/ unselfishly without an expectation of personal gains. For example, Bill Gates - a phenomenal philanthropist in donating huge amount of his fortune to the underprivileged. That’s why people really respect and admire him. Secondly, if you could become a role model for people like Oprah Winfrey shows her great gratitude towards life despite her adversities. 

What would you do to become popular?

Well, in my opinion, being popular is not terribly important unless you’re a politician or a teacher or something. You may want to be voted for or you may be looking for a promotion in your job. So, I think the best thing to do is to be fair with people, treat them with respect, give them a good service and after that make them make up their own mind whether they like you or not! To be honest with you, I don’t waste time trying to manipulate/ convince (= persuade) people to like me because I think it’s not a very useful exercise and it makes you very exhausted.

Is it easy to become popular?

Yes, it is… However, you know sometimes, it’s challenging because very often people could misunderstand your intentions and think that you have an anterior motive. In another case, if you can demonstrate that your intentions are genuine and sincere, then they will response more positively to you!

What are the problems that popular people can have?

Obviously, their privacy would be invaded for sure. They always have to pay attention to the details of their appearance in public eyes or how to behave in the way that is expected of them. Very often, they have to play the crowd, make the crowd happy and cannot act freely! To be fair, popularity usually doesn’t come from nowhere. I mean, people who are popular often work hard for their popularity. It could be explained in a way that somehow they lack self-esteem or insecure. You know, the fear of being inferior inside, they want everybody to love them. Therefore, they have to burn their candles at both ends. As well as this, popularity is very much fickle. It changes very fast and most of the time, it usually lasts for a very short period of time and people change their mind and taste in different period.

  4. Adversity - a difficult or unlucky situation or event: nghịch cảnh

Example: The road to happiness is paved with adversities.: Con đường hạnh phúc được lát bằng nghịch cảnh.

  1. Not terribly important: không thực sự quá quan trọng
  2. Look for a promotion:  mong chờ 1 sự thăng chức
  3. Make them make up their own mind:hãy để cho họ tự quyết định
  4. To be honest with you: thành thật mà nói với bạn thì
  5. Manipulate - to control something or someone to your advantage, often unfairly or dishonestly: thao túng

Example: Throughout her career she has very successfully manipulated the media.: Trong suốt sự nghiệp của mình, cô đã thao túng truyền thông rất thành công.

  2. Challenging - difficult, in a way that tests your ability or determination: thách thức, khó khăn

Example: This has been a challenging time for us all.: Đây là một thời gian đầy thách thức cho tất cả chúng ta.

  1. Misunderstand your intentions: hiểu nhầm các ý định của bạn
  2. Have an anterior motive: có một động lực trước
  3. Anterior - positioned at or towards the front: phía trước

Example: Specimens for examination were taken from the anterior side of the left ventricle from each heart.: Mẫu bệnh phẩm được lấy từ phía trước của tâm thất trái từ mỗi trái tim.

  1. In another case: ở trong 1 tình thế khác
  2. Genuine and sincere: thật và chân thành
  3. Response more positively:phản ứng tích cực hơn nhiều
  4. Privacy would be invaded for sure: chắc chắn là sự riêng tư của họ sẽ bị xâm chiếm
  5. Pay attention to the details of their appearance:chú ý tỉ mỉ đến từng chi tiết về bề ngoài
  6. To be fair: considering everything that has an effect on a situation, so that a fair judgment can be made: công bằng mà nói thì

Example: He’s done the job badly but, to be fair, I gave him very little time to do it.: Anh ấy đã hoàn thành công việc rất tệ, nhưng công bằng mà nói, tôi đã cho anh ấy rất ít thời gian để làm việc đó.

  1. Work hard for their popularity: làm việc chăm chỉ cho sự nổi tiếng/ được ưa thích của họ
  2. Lack self-esteemor insecure: thiếu sự yêu bản thân hoặc cảm thấy không an toàn
  3. Burn the candle at both ends - to work very hard as well as doing other things such as going out late at night, so that you get very little rest: làm việc không ngừng nghỉ
  4. Fickle - likely to change your opinion or your feelings suddenly and without a good reason: dễ thay đổi

Example: The world of popular music is notoriously fickle.: Thế giới âm nhạc nổi tiếng là hay thay đổi.
