Các bạn có biết từ DEAD (tình từ của từ DIE) mà chúng ta hầu như đều biết mang nghĩa chết có đến tận 7 nghĩa cực kì thú vị mà BEC đảm bảo là còn cực nhiều bạn vẫn chưa nắm được hết nghĩa của từ DEAD này.
1. Dead (a) /ded/: not now living: đã chết
Example: She’s been dead for 20 years now.
Example: Local residents found the whale dead on the beach.
2. Dead (a) /ded/ = numb = If a part of your body is dead, you cannot feel it: không cảm xúc (mất cảm giác)
Example: I’ve been sitting with my legs crossed for so long, my right leg has gone dead.
Example: I tried to catch monkey, but my arm had gone dead.
3. Dead (a) /ded/ = boring = If a place is dead, it is too quiet and nothing interesting happens there: chán, tẻ nhạt
Example: The city centre is quite lively during the day, but it's totally dead at night.
4. Dead (a) /ded/ = no power (If a piece of equipment is dead, it is not working): hết điện, không hoạt động nữa
Example: a dead battery
5. Dead (a) /ded/ = very tired: cực mệt mỏi
Example: I’m absolutely dead by the end of the day.
6. Dead (a) /ded/ = very (informal British): cực kì…
Example: The exam was dead easy/interesting.
7. Dead (a) /ded/ = exactly (directions/time): chính xác là…
Example: The post office is dead (= straight) ahead.
