1. Keep up the good work: tiếp tục làm tốt
Example: The company boss was pleased with her staff and told them to keep up the good work.
2. Many hands make light work = used to say that people can do things more quickly and easily when they work together: nhiều người chung sức chung lòng thì dễ thành công
Example: It’s a big job, but many hands make light work.
3. A work of art: 1 tác phẩm nghệ thuật
Example: The Mona Lisa is a work of art!
4. A work of fiction: câu chuyện hư cấu
Example: She told many lies. Her story was a work of fiction.
5. Work-life balance (n) /ˌwɜːk.laɪf ˈbæl.əns/: the amount of time you spend doing your job compared with the amount of time you spend with your family and doing things you enjoy: sự cân bằng giữa thời gian dành cho công việc và thời gian nghỉ ngơi, dành cho cuộc sống riêng
Example: It can be difficult to get the right work-life balance.
6. Working life (n) /ˌwɜː.kɪŋ ˈlaɪf/: the part of a person's life when they do a job or are at work: công việc cả đời
Example: His entire working life was spent with the same firm.
7. Work in progress/process = something that is being developed or suggested but that is not yet complete: đang tiến hành
Example: The road is closed for repair. The work is in progress.
8. Work your fingers to the bone = to work extremely hard, especially for a long time: làm gian khổ
Example: She worked her fingers to the bone to provide a home and food for seven children.
9. Work something out = find a solution to a problem: giải quyết được…
Example:: Don’t worry, it will all work out.
10. Backbreaking work (a) /ˈbækˌbreɪ.kɪŋ/: needing a lot of hard, physical effort and making you feel extremely tired: công việc vất vả
Example: Digging the vegetable garden was backbreaking work.
11. Labour-intensive work /ˌleɪ.bər.ɪnˈten.sɪv/ = work that is usually done by hands, not by machine: công việc lao động chân tay
Example: Making clothes by hand is labour-intensive work.
12. Dirty work (n) /ˈdɜr·t̬i ˌwɜrk/: an unpleasant or dishonest job, esp. something that other people do not want to do: công việc xấu xa không được ai ưa thích
Example: My boss gives me all his dirty work to do, so he doesn’t get blamed when things go wrong.
13. Seasonal work/job = work in busy times of the year: công việc thời vụ
Example: You can usually find seasonal work in the summer in beach resorts.
14. Shift work = work at different times in the day: công việc ca kíp
Example: Chefs often have to do shift work, cooking lunch and dinners.
15. Fieldwork (n) /ˈfiːld.wɜːk/: study that consists of practical activities that are done away from your school, college, or place of work: Nghiên cứu thị trường
Example: They had to go to Africa to do their fieldwork.
16. Work ethic (n) /ˈwɜːk ˌeθ.ɪk/: the belief that work is morally good: đạo đức nghề nghiệp
Example: Bill’s work ethic was never very strong.
17. Work schedule: lịch trình làm việc
Example: I’ve printed out the work schedules so that we all know what we have to do.
18. Work experience: kinh nghiệm làm việc
Example: It’s good for young people to do a voluntary job to get some work experience.
