Do you like science? 

Answer 1: No, not a bit. Even though they are quite useful in our lives, none of these subjects Biology, Chemistry and Physics tickles my fancy. I guess, probably I’m hopeless at lateral thinking. Despite my best efforts, I would always struggle to get a grasp on those scientific ideas.

Answer 2: To be honest, I never particularly liked studying science at school. Some things about biology interest me, such as genetics and the process of evolution, but I soon feel out of my depth when reading about them in detail. Physics and chemistry are even worse. I’m pretty clueless when it comes to these subjects and try as I might, I can never seem to even feign an interest in them.

What is the most difficult part of studying science? 

Answer 1: Well, I think there’s no specific part that stands out as being more difficult than the rest. However, most people would find chemicals symbols/formulas and equations incredibly confusing and frustrations to learn. It’s also challenging to comprehend numerous complex theories in Physics, especially Quantum Entanglement.

Answer 2: To put it plainly/simply, I would say, everything. There is no one part that stands out as being more difficult than the rest. To me, progress and development in science is so rapid that the things you learn are often quickly outdated and replaced with different rules. If I was a science student, i would find this incredibly confusing and frustrating.  

Do you like watching TV programmes about science?

No, not really. As I briefly mentioned before, anything science related is not my cup of tea. The one exception is the Discovery channel or nature or wildlife documentaries somehow arouse my interest. Because the content is very accessible, comprehensive and not heavily scientific. 

How has the science you studied helped you?

Answer 1: To be honest with you, I don’t think it has helped me that much. Although I cannot deny the fact that it does allow me to quickly figure out some basic calculations on a daily basis. In addition, it has provided me a strong foundation of knowledge about the surrounding environment and our beautiful Universe.

Answer 2: Frankly, I don’t think it’s helped me that much. One thing that has stuck with me all these years is the chemical elements and their symbols on the periodic table, but unfortunately, I’ve never needed to apply that knowledge in a practical way.

5. Clueless adjective/ˈkluː.ləs/ = having no knowledge of something, or of things in general:

Example:Most people are completely clueless about tide directions and weather conditions. (Hầu hết mọi người hoàn toàn không biết gì về hướng thủy triều và điều kiện thời tiết.)

6. Feign verb /feɪn/ = to pretend to have a particular feeling, problem, etc. :

Example: You know how everyone feigns surprise when you tell them how old you are. (Bạn biết mọi người giả vờ bất ngờ như thế nào khi bạn nói với họ bạn bao nhiêu tuổi.)

7. Chemical formula noun /ˌkem.ɪ.kəl ˈfɔː.mjʊ.lə/ = the way of representing a substance using the symbols of its elements: kí hiệu hoá học

Example: H2O is the chemical formula for water.

8. Equation noun/ɪˈkweɪ.ʒən/ = a mathematical statement in which you show that two amounts are equal using mathematical symbols: phương trình

Example: In the equation 3x - 3 = 15, x = 6.

9. Comprehend verb /ˌkɒm.prɪˈhend/ = to understand something completely: hiểu được

Example: He doesn't seem to comprehend the scale of the problem

10. Comprehensive adjective/ˌkɒm.prɪˈhen.sɪv/ = complete and including everything that is necessary: đầy đủ

Example: He has written a fully comprehensive guide to Rome.(Ông đã viết một hướng dẫn đầy đủ toàn diện về Rome).

11. Stand out /stænd/ = to be very noticeable: nổi bật (nổi trội)

Example: The black lettering really stands out on that orange background.

12. Confusing adjective /kənˈfjuː.zɪŋ/ = Something that is confusing makes you feel confused because it is difficult to understand: bối rối

Example: We have two people called Paul James working here, so it's a bit confusing!

13. Frustrating adjective/frʌsˈtreɪ.tɪŋ/ = making you feel annoyed or less confident because you cannot achieve what you want: bực bội 

Example: He doesn't listen to what I say and it's so frustrating.(Anh ấy không nghe những gì tôi nói và thật là bực bội.)

14. Not be sb'scup of tea = If something is not your cup of tea, it is not the type of thing of that you like: một cái gì đó không phải là gu/ sở thích của bạn

Example: Thanks for inviting me, but ballet isn't really my cup of tea.

15. Universe noun/ˈjuː.nɪ.vɜːs/ =  everything that exists, especially all physical matter, including all the stars, planets, galaxies, etc. In space: vũ trụ

Example: Is there intelligent life elsewhere in the universe?

16. Chemical element noun /ˌkem.ɪ.kəl ˈel.ɪ.mənt/ = a substance that cannot be broken down into any simpler chemical substances and is made of atoms all of the same type: nguyên tố hoá học
17. The periodic table noun /ˌpɪə.ri.ɒd.ɪk ˈteɪ.bəl/ = an arrangement of the symbols of chemical elements in rows and columns, showing similarities in chemical behaviour, especially between elements in the same columns: bảng tuần hoàn
