Mại dâm luôn là một trong những tệ nạn xã hội và cũng là topic debate gay gắt trong xã hội hiện nay. Tuy rằng IELTS chưa bao giờ động đến câu hỏi về chủ đề này nhưng tuần vừa qua BEC có nhận được câu hỏi của 1 bạn học viên  hỏi về topic này nên mình đã cố gắng ngồi mày mò để trả lời được content tốt nhất cho bạn. May mắn thay, thầy James đã cố vấn thêm với tư cách là nhà tâm lý học và có cách nhìn hết sức vị tha (TOLERABLE VIEW) về PROSTITUE (gái mại dâm) mà khiến mình thực sự có cái nhìn cực khác về topic này

1. Do you agree that prostitution is a ‘sign of great moral weakness in our society’?

2. What is the law in your country in relation to the issue of prostitution? Do you think it is too strict, too lenient or about right? Why? 

3. How would you feel if you found out that a close friend or a member of your family was working as a prostitute?

Vocabulary highlights:
1. Moral (a) /ˈmɒr.əl/: relating to the standards of good or bad behaviour, fairness, honesty, etc. that each person believes in, rather than to laws: đạo đức
Example: It’s her moral obligation to tell the police what she knows.
2. Poverty-stricken (a) /ˈpɒv.ə.tiˌstrɪk.ən/: A poverty-stricken person or place is suffering from the effects of being extremely poor: nghèo thê thảm
Example: Some beggars are neither Example: nor homeless.
3. Taboo (n) /təˈbuː/: a subject, word, or action that is avoided for religious or social reasons: điều cấm kỵ
Example: In this society there is a taboo on/against any sort of public display of affection.
4. Moral compass (n) [ C ] /ˌmɒr.əl ˈkʌm.pəs/: a natural feeling that makes people know what is right and wrong and how they should behave: phạm vi đạo đức
Example: Some people believe that the increase in crime shows that society is losing its moral compass.
5. Pry (v) /praɪ/: to try to find out private facts about a person: soi mói
Example: As a reporter, I was paid to pry into other people's lives.
6. Pimp (n) [ C ] /pɪmp/: a man who controls prostitutes, especially by finding customers for them, and takes some of the money that they earn: ma cô
7. Astounded (a) /əˈstaʊn.dɪd/: very surprised or shocked: sửng sốt
Example: I was astounded to hear that Tina had left.
