Trong giao tiếp hàng ngày khi nói chuyện với người bản ngữ hoặc khi xem phim bạn sẽ gặp rất nhiều các cách phản ứng mà mình chưa bao giờ được học trong kiến thức sách vở. 1. Over the top (OTT): too extreme and not suitable, or demanding too much attention or effort, especially in an uncontrolled way: quá đà..
Example: I thought the decorations were way (= very) over the top.
2. If I were in your shoes = used when you want to tell someone what you would do in their situation: nếu mình ở trong tình huống của bạn…
Example: If I were in your shoes, I think I'd write to her rather than try to explain over the phone.
3. You could have fooled me = used for saying you do not believe something that someone is telling you: mình không tin.
Example: ’Sam never meant to upset you.’ ‘Well, you could have fooled me!’
4. One way or another = in some way that is not known yet: Không bằng cách này thì bằng cách khác
Example: We’ll get out of this mess one way or another.
5. If all else fails = if none of our plans succeed: nếu mọi cách không được. ..
Example: If all else fails, we can always stay in and watch TV.
6. One thing leads to another = If one thing leads to another, there is a series of events in which each event was caused by the previous one: Hết chuyện này đến chuyện khác
Example: At first, we were just talking a little, but one thing led to another, and he asked me out.
