Collective noun (Danh từ tập hợp) là những danh từ dùng để diễn tả một nhóm hoặc một tập hợp các cá thể. Nó bao gồm tập hợp các nhóm người, động vật, và cả những vật vô tri vô giác.
Việc nắm được rõ các danh từ tập hợp không chỉ tăng vocab (từ vựng) cho bạn rất nhiều mà còn giúp bạn đọc các bài IELTS tốt hơn nhiều. Cùng IELTS Trangbec học các COLLECTIVE NOUNS được chia theo nhóm rõ ràng như bên dưới:
I. For PEOPLE - Dành cho người
1. A crowd of people: Một đám người
Example: I can walk through a crowd of people and feel very confident.
2. A class of students : Một lớp học
Example: Each year a class of students was added to the school
3. A large group of musicians: Một dàn nhạc sĩ
Example: A large group of musicians who play many different instruments together and are led by a conductor
4. A gang of thieves: 1 băng đản trộm
Example: The day before, he'd been thrown from a Mexican freight train by a gang of thieves.
II. For ANIMALS - Dành cho động vật
1. A shoal of fish: 1 đàn cá
Example: A shoal of fish swam past heading for the open sea .
2. A pair of birds: 1 đôi chim
Example: A pair of birds sitting on a branch.
3. A swarm of bees: 1 đàn ong
Example: A swarm of bees appears and collect their offerings from the flowers.
4. A flock of sheep: Một bầy /đàn cừu
Example: Today it houses just one cow and a flock of sheep.
5. A pack of dogs/hyenas/wolves: 1 đàn chó/ linh cẩu/ chó sói
Example: He and Jennings are attacked by a pack of dogs and barely escape.
6. A herd of cows/deer/goats: 1 đàn bò/ nai/ dê
Example: There are large herds of cattle and flocks of sheep and goats.
7. A murder of crows : một đàn quạ
Example: A murder of crows appear and the townspeople believe it is a good omen
8. A colony of ants : Một đàn kiến
Example: He first saved a colony of ants from the flood, then a swarm of mosquitoes
III. For THINGS - Dành cho vật
1. A bunch of flowers : Một bó hoa
Example: The jackfruit may be replaced with a bunch of flowers.
2. A quiver of arrows : Một bao tên
Example: Soon the boy's bow was strung and his quiver full of arrows.
3. A row of cottages: 1 dãy các nhà tranh
Example: Our billets were about a mile out of town, in a row of farm cottages.
4. A range of hills: 1 dãy đồi
Example: Tulin is surrounded by a range of hills and encircled by Subarnarekha river.
5. A small group of islands: 1 nhóm các hòn đảo nhỏ
Example: A group of islands is called an archipelago.
6. A belt of asteroids :Một chuỗi các tiểu hành tinh
7. A pile/heap of papers/clothes/dishes: 1 đống/chồng giấy/quần áo/ đĩa…
Example: There was a pile of clean laundry on her bed.
8. A stack of chairs/tables/boxes/logs: Một chồng ghế / bàn / hộp / khúc gỗ
9. A set of tools/ pots/pans: Một bộ công cụ / nồi / chảo
