Do you feel bored sometimes? How often does it happen?

Well, once in a blue moon. I guess, mainly/primarily because I’m always up to my neck/ears in studying IELTS. As well as this, I am highly aware of making the most of every precious moment in life. Therefore, I spend very little time being bored (or: I literally never feel bored).

Do you feel more bored now than when you were a child?

Absolutely not! I actually used to feel bored to be honest with you, back at school when I was required to memorise / learn by heart a lot of theories / information. However, right now, I am very much conscious of the detrimental effects of complaining or allowing myself to feel mored. That’s why I go to great lengths to partake in various social activities. 

What do you do when you feel bored?

Well, basically I would definitely call my best friends to hang out and kill time together because I know they are just one call away. For me, the best anecdote for boredom would be being immersed insocial activities/ scenarios such as joining dancing club or cooking class or something like that.

What kinds of things bore you the most?

Well, I can’t think of anything that bore me honestly. That’s the thing I always feel so thankful for. It is also the main / primary reason why I feel really sorry for those working like a zombie at office buildings, sitting still in front of computers all day long. It’s so repetitive, mind-numbing and monotonous (Or: soulless).

 

Vocabulary highlights:

Example: My sister lives in Alaska, so I only see her once in a blue moon.

  1. Primarily adverb/praɪˈmer.əl.i/: mainly: chủ yếu là

Example: We’re primarily concerned with keeping expenditure down. (Chúng tôi chủ yếu quan tâm đến việc giữ chi tiêu thấp đi)

  1. Be up to yourears in sth = to be very busy, or to have more of something than you can manage: bận ngập đầu, ngập cổ 

Exammple: I’m up to my ears in work.

  1. To be highly aware of …. nhận thức được rất rõ….
  2. Memorise verb /ˈmem.ə.raɪz/: to learn something so that you will remember it exactly: ghi nhớ (thuộc)

Example: When I was at school, we were required to memorize a poem every week. (Khi tôi ở trường, chúng tôi được yêu cầu ghi nhớ một bài thơ mỗi tuần.)

  1. Detrimental adjective /ˌdet.rɪˈmen.təl/: causing harm or damage:

Example: Their decision could be detrimental to the future of the company. (Quyết định của họ có thể gây bất lợi cho tương lai của công ty.)

  1. Detrimental effects:những ảnh hưởng có hại
  2. Go to great lengths = go to any lengths = to try very hard to achieve something: cố gắng hết sức để đạt được điều gì đó

Example: Some people go to great lengths to make their homes attractive.

  1. Partake = to become involved with or take part in something: tham gia vào cái gì đó

Example: She was happy to partake in the festivities.

  1. Just one call away: (A person would tell someone (usually a close friend or family), "I'm only a call away," to mean that they will be there for them whenever that person needs them) : khi bạn dùng cụm từ này thường với những người bạn thân của mình hoặc gia đình mình thì ý bạn là bạn sẽ luôn ở bên họ bất cứ lúc nào họ cần
  2. Anecdote noun /ˈæn.ɪk.dəʊt/: a short, often funny story, especially about something someone has done: câu truyện ngắn

Example: He told one or two amusing anecdotes about his years as a policeman.(Ông kể một hoặc hai giai thoại thú vị về những năm làm cảnh sát.)

  1. To be being immersed insocial activities: được hoà mình, đắm chìm vào các hoạt động xã hội
  2. Sit still: ngồi nguyên 1 chỗ
  3. Repetitive, mind-numbing and monotonous: lặp đi lặp lại, nhàm chán và tẻ nhạt vô cùng
  4. Soulless adjective/ˈsəʊl.ləs/: showing no human influence or qualities: không có hồn

Example: a soulless building of grey concrete (1 toà nhà bê tông xám vô hồn)
