Trong các bài thi IELTS SPEAKING, topic về BUSINESS hay MONEY cũng như chỉ số lượng được dùng khá nhiều, nay chúng mình cùng học các thành ngữ cực tuyệt cho chủ đề này, nguồn tham khảo bạn có thể học từ cuốn Destination C cực kinh điển!
 
1. Fifty-fifty (adv,a) /ˌfɪf.tiˈfɪf.ti/: (into) equal halves: chia đều
Example: They divided the prize fifty-fifty.
 
2. Go halves = to divide the cost of something with someone: chia đều 
Example: Shall we go halves on a bottle of champagne?
 
3. Keep up with the Joneses = to always want to own the same expensive objects and do the same things as your friends or neighbours, because you are worried about seeming less important socially than they are: đua đòi 
Example: He’s just trying to keep up with the Joneses, if you ask me. 
 
4. Tidy sum/ amount = large sum/amount: số tiền lớn
Example: Lucy managed to save quite a tidy sum last summer.
 
5. Break even = to have no profit or loss at the end of a business activity: hoà vốn
Example: After paying for our travel costs, we barely (= only just) broke even.
 
6. Fall short = to fail to reach an amount or standard that was expected or hoped for, causing disappointment: thất bại/không đạt mục tiêu.
Example: August car sales fell short of the industry's expectations.
 
7. Line your pocket(s) = to earn money using dishonest or illegal methods:  làm ăn/kiếm tiền không trung thực,
Example: Staff at the bank have apparently been lining their pockets with money from investors' accounts.
 
8. Six of one and half a dozen of the other = said when you think that neither of two choices is better than the other: hai sự lựa chọn hay hai hoàn cảnh đều giống nhau, ngang nhau
Example: ”Shall we give her chocolates or flowers?" "I don't know, it's six of one and half a dozen of the other."
