There are many great shopping streets around Hanoi but to me the outstanding one for sure is Dinh Le Street, which is better well-known as the “Book street”.

Located in the heart of Hanoi near Hoan Kiem Lake, it is a beautiful small street about 200 meters long.

It is open 7 days a week and is always busy with book buyers. Arriving at this street, you would find yourself astonished at the numerous bookshops with various book types such as Vietnamese literary titles, foreign literature, cookery books, novels and so on. These books are arranged into sections, which is really easy for customers to find.

You know all ages of people come here with diverse backgrounds. For students and book lovers, Dinh Le Street has become a familiar place for a long time. Some people buy books for referencing or relaxation. Others just love standing to read bits and pieces. Sometimes, foreign visitors also find it curious and buy books in here.

I often go there with my best friend - David because he is also a book worm like me. We both enjoy looking for new books and also exchange them to save money. This is actually the ideal place to buy imported books from other countries with higher quality. Our favourite bookshop on this street is Lam bookshop because it offers all the kinds of books we desire to buy.

What makes Dinh Le Street so special is its truly French atmosphere. All bookshops have elegant French architecture and are surrounded by green trees and pretty boutique coffee shops. The overall atmosphere is very enjoyable and relaxing.

On top of that, the thing that I particularly like is that they often offer 10-20% discount, which is fairly reasonable. At weekends or on special occasions such as the New School year or International Children’s Day, it becomes a lively place.

Dinh Le street indeed plays a great role in maximizing cultural values in Hanoi as well as upholding the reading book culture.

I would highly recommend anyone who has a thirst for knowledge to visit this street and for sure it will enlighten your book shopping experience.
