Part 1: Frequent questions and answers

  1. Do you like animals?
  • I would say I don’t hate them. I am not very much of an animal lover but I love them if they exist and I am able to see them. But, owning an animal might be something I won’t prefer.

  1. What’s your favorite animal? Why?
  • I love cows a lot. I think they bring in lot of peace and care in a house. You see them, they rarely make any noise and still for some reasons when I look into their eyes, it feels very peaceful and lovely

  1. Are people in your country fond of animals?
  • Yes, they are. People in my country love animals. You could find a dog or a cow being owned by a family. And it is not for any monetary reasons but because they like being around them and caring for them. Animals do bring a certain extent of happiness and togetherness in a family

  1. What kinds of animals as a pet do the people have in your country?
  • As a pet, most of the people have dogs in their house. Dogs are preferred over other animals because firstly they are very friendly and loyal to their owner. Also, they help in guarding the house against all the possible odds.

  1. Compared with the past, have there been any changes concerning pets in your country/hometown?
  • I think yes, there have been many observable changes in our country since past few decades. With the coming of globalization and people going for modernization, there has been a steep decline in people owning cows. Earlier one could see most of the houses having a cow, because first it is treated as God in our country and then there are some monetary benefits associated with cows. One can sell its milk and other milk products

  1. Do you think cities are suitable places for keeping a pet?
  • A pet requires 24/7 care and if in a city one can provide that care, there should not be any issue in keeping a pet. I think with houses in cities so close to each other keeping pets like cows or other big ones is not possible. But, for the ones smaller in size like dog, cat or fishes, it is completely feasible and one should definitely go for them. But, yes if one has a very strict working lifestyle, keeping a pet will only be disastrous for the pet.
  1. Do children like animals?
  • It all depends, I assume. There are some who love animals and then there are even those who are scared of them and not like them. Also, there are some who like to irritate animals just for the sake of fun

  1. What kind of animals do you think children like?
  • I think for most part, children love dogs and cats. Because these are the animals children can have lot of fun with. They can play and roam about with them

  1. What was your favourite animal when you were a child?
  • I was not a very particular animal lover as a child. I used to get irritated when people annoyed or irritated animals, but going out and playing with them was not my idea of having fun.

  1. Did you have any pets when you were a child?
  • Yes, my father got a dog for us as we were child. But, I remember he was so aggressive that we rarely played with it. He used to kept only for guarding the house. However, later on when he started recognizing us he allowed us to come near him. I remember, my brother actually bonded a lot with him and so when he died it was a true shock for my brother.

  1. If you have children in the future, will you allow them to raise a pet?
  • Definitely yes. I think having a pet in the house is very important because it allows the kids to learn about love, patience, respect and so much more. It brings happiness and togetherness and tells you that no matter if the other person is more or less powerful you should stand for the right

SAMPLE ANSWER

I am keen on all animals in general, but I think my favorite would be a dog. A dog is a domestic animal and can be seen in almost all houses and streets of my country. The best part about dogs is that apart from being a great keeper, they also shower love on their owners. A person owning a dog gets love and care from the dog and the dog makes sure that no one harms his or her owner.

Although, most people like dogs, every one has different choices as there are various breeds of dogs such as pugs, golden retriever, bulldog  and German shepherd etc. Interestingly, the characteristics of dogs depend on their breed. For instance, a bulldog is more aggressive than a pug and is more likely to bite you. Even more, the food requirements vary with breed. As a matter of fact, a smaller breed would require more energy and food than a larger or a medium sized breed. One needs to know the breed of the dog and provide the food accordingly.

A dog surely becomes a part of family and often it has been seen that they get weak in the absence of their owners. The connection between dogs and humans is almost electric and I believe one must surely have one

Model answer:

Tiger is a wild animal which is very common in our country. It is the largest animal of the cat species and they grow up quite large. It can grow up to 11 feet and can weight more than 300 kg. Tigers generally live about 25 years and they require a large habitat area that supports their prey requirements.

Most of the tigers of the world are found in the widely are across Asia, Turkey and Russia. The most recognisable feature of a tiger is its dark vertical stripes on reddish-orange fur with a lighter underside. They have got a big head and sharp teeth claws. It is a carnival animal that mostly depends on the meat of other animals. The largest number of tigers can be found in India and the total subspecies and the numbers of tigers are decreasing over time.  Tigers are good swimmers and are often found crossing rivers and lakes in heavy tides.

Tigers usually hunt alone unlike other animals that prey in a group. They first target their prey and aim at it. When the target is fixed, it attacks with a sudden ferocity overpowering the prey with the strength and size. Tigers have great leaping ability and can run very fast.

This formidable large wild animal is getting extinct over time and they have become numbered in the world. Approximately only 3500 tigers are present in the world and the number is decreasing. Many tigers are held in the zoo for public and they usually live on supplied meat.

In my opinion, since the human is superior to any other living species, we have a responsibility to prevent the extinction of the tiger as we are the primary reason for their extinction. Wild animals are part of the eco-system we live in and we have a natural responsibility to preserve a balanced eco-system for our own good.

Model answer:

I’ll describe an endangered animal in northeastern China. It’s called the Manchurian or Siberian tiger.

Manchurian tigers arc very impressive animals. Like all tigers, they have orange and black stripes and a white underside, and powerful claws and teeth. The largest are nearly 1.5 meters tall, and can weigh between 300 and 400 kilos of muscle! They’re the largest of the cat family, and the most effective and dangerous hunters. They’re found all over Siberia and in a few places in northeastern China. They usually hunt and live alone, and only meet other tigers during the milling season. I think there are less than 50 of them in the wild in China. There are more kept in captivity, in zoos or special parks. There is one wildlife park in Harbin that is famous for its many Manchurian tigers.

Most Chinese admire the tiger as a symbol of strength and fierceness. Tigers have had a place in Chinese culture for thousands of years. They are found in Chinese literature new and old, and are the subject of many famous paintings, But I don’t think many Chinese know that this special breed of tigers is all but wiped out in the wild. I hope more efforts will be made in the future to protect the tiger’s environment. Without the forests they live and hunt in, Manchurian tigers can only exist in captivity.
