Nếu bạn vẫn chưa biết ANNUAL LEAVE (nghỉ phép năm) hay SICK LEAVE (nghỉ ốm) thì càng cần phải học kỹ content cơ bản này. Từ LEAVE đa phần các bạn mới chỉ biết là động từ với nghĩa là “rời đi”. Tuy nhiên LEAVE khi đóng vai trò là danh từ thì lại mang nghĩa là “sự rời đi” hay “nghỉ.."
 
1. Annual leave (n) : a paid number of days each year that an employee is allowed to be away from work: nghỉ phép năm
Example: She is on annual leave
 
 
2. Unpaid leave (n) : a period of time that someone is allowed away from work for holiday, illness, or another special reason, but that they are not paid for: nghỉ phép không lương
Example: Parents of young children are allowed 13 weeks of unpaid leave.
 
 
3. Maternity leave (n) /məˈtɜː.nə.ti ˌliːv/: a period in which a woman is legally allowed to be absent from work in the weeks before and after she gives birth: Nghỉ thai sản 
Example: Martina was on maternity leave and is now welcomed back by all her friends.
 
 
4. Paternity leave (n) /pəˈtɜː.nɪ.ti ˌliːv/: a period of time that a father is legally allowed to be away from his job so that he can spend time with his new baby: Nghỉ việc riêng khi vợ sinh con
Example: Parental leave, or family leave, is an employee benefit available in almost all countries. 
 
 
5. Sick leave (n) /ˈsɪk ˌliːv/: time away from work because of illness: nghỉ ốm
Example: Mark is not in the office today. He broke his leg yesterday, so he's on/he's taken sick leave.
 
 
6. Administrative leave (n) /ədˌmɪn.ɪ.strə.tɪv ˈliːv/: a period of time when an employee does not have to go to work for a particular reason: nghỉ hành chính
Example: Managers and supervisors are authorized to approve paid administrative leave for individuals in their areas who were affected by the fire.
 
 
7. Compassionate leave (n) /kəmˌpæʃ.ən.ət ˈliːv/: a period of time that a company allows you not to come to work because a member of your family has died or is ill: Nghỉ việc riêng khi có người thân trong gia đình mất.
 
 
8. AWOL (absent without leave) = military leave: used to say that a member of the armed forces is away without permission: đào ngũ
Example: The pilot is serving 22 days' detention for going AWOL.
 
 
9. Gardening leave (n) /ˈɡɑː.dən.ɪŋ ˌliːv/: a period of time after an employee leaves a job when they continue to be paid but are not allowed to go to work or to begin a new job: thời gian tạm dừng lao động
Example: He is currently on gardening leave and may not take up his new post until May.
