Topic Card:
Describe a piece of clothes or jewelry. You should say:
- What it is
- On what occasions you wear it
- Where you got it
And state how you feel about it.
Sample Answer:
My favorite jewelry in my jewelry box is a pair of jade bracelets. They were handed down from my grandmother.
The bracelets are made of hard jade, a kind of beautiful and valuable stone. They are bright in colour and luster, revealing the good quality. And the polish and brilliance reflect the dedicate craft. When one of them strikes the other, they give forth a pure and prolonged sound like pleasant music. Although not custom-made for me, they interesting fit on my wrist., neither tight nor loose. I sometime wear them to match my formal dress. They look nostalgic yet classy.
I love the bracelets not only because of their beauty, but also, more importantly, their culture and meaning. For our ancestors, the jade’s perfect compactness and extreme hardness represent the sureness of intelligence; its colour represents loyalty; its interior flaws, always showing themselves through the transparency, call to mind sincerity. Although more expensive, diamonds and gold cannot be compared with jade – jade is animated with a soul, as saying goes: “Gold has a value; jade is invaluable.”
In ancient time, jade bracelets were often sent to fiancées as engagement gifts. They stand for beauty, grace and purity.
