Topic mới toanh trong bài thi nói IELTS Speaking part 1 có hỏi mem các câu hỏi xung quanh về thời thơ ấu của mình - TALK ABOUT YOUR CHILDHOOD. Để làm tăng vốn từ vựng LEXICAL RESOURCE (là 1 trong các tiêu chí cực quan trọng giám khảo chấm bài nói của bạn) thì chúng mình cần tìm hiểu các từ đồng nghĩa với CHILDHOOD như IELTS Trangbec đã liệt kê ở bên dưới.
NOTE: Chúng mình lưu ý có 2 từ mà chúng mình có bổ sung vào danh sách nhưng ở giai đoạn tuổi trưởng thành (khác với childhood) là ADOLESCENCE hay ADULTHOOD để các bạn tránh trả lời sai.
1. Childhood (n) /ˈtʃaɪld.hʊd/: the time when someone is a child: thời thơ ấu
Example: She had an unhappy childhood.
2. Youngster (n) /ˈjʌŋ.stər/: a young person, usually an older child: thanh niên
Example: The scheme is for youngsters between the ages of ten and 16.
3. Kid (n) /kɪd/: a child: đứa trẻ
Example: He took the kids to the park while I was working.
4. Little one = A CHILD: đứa trẻ
Example: The little ones must be hungry by now.
5. Teenage (a) /ˈtiːn.eɪdʒ/: aged between 13 and 19: thanh niên
Example: a teenage nephew
6. Teenager (n) /ˈtiːnˌeɪ.dʒər/: (informal teen): a young person between 13 and 19 years old: thiếu niên
Example: The magazine is aimed at teenagers and young adults.
7. Youth /juːθ/ = the period between childhood and adult age: tuổi trẻ
Example: ”He had been a keen sportsman in his youth"
8. Teenage years: những năm thiếu niên
Example: James was really naughty during his teenage years.
9. Early childhood/ years: thời thơ ấu
Example: His early childhood involved frequently moving around in Missouri
10.Early in life = at a young age: từ sớm (trẻ)
Example: She knew what she wanted to do early in life.
11. Children should be seen and not heard = said to emphasize that you think children should behave well and be quiet: trẻ em chỉ nên xuất hiện và không nên lên tiếng (đặc biệt khi có người lớn)
Example: When I was young, I was taught that children should be seen and not heard.
12. Adolescence (n) /ˌæd.əˈles.əns/: the period of time in a person's life when they are developing into an adult: thời thanh niên
Example: She had a troubled adolescence.
13. Adulthood (n) /ˈæd.ʌlt.hʊd/: the part of someone's life when they are an adult: tuổi trưởng thành
Example: People in England legally reach adulthood at 18.
