Trong các bài thi nói IELTS SPeaking, các câu hỏi liên quan về sự so sánh giữa A và B được hỏi nhiều vô vàn. Để làm tốt các câu hỏi này bạn cần nắm được các động từ, danh từ cũng như các cụm từ phổ biến đưa ra sự tương phản hay so sánh để giúp cho câu trả lời của mình mang tính thuyết phục hơn thật nhiều
1. Differentiate (v) /ˌdɪf.əˈren.ʃi.eɪt/: to show or find the difference between things that are compared: phân biệt

2. Distinguish (v) /dɪˈstɪŋ.ɡwɪʃ/: to notice or understand the di
Example: He’s colour-blind and can't distinguish (the difference) between red
3. A clear distinction between A and B: a difference between two similar things - sự khác nhau rõ ràng giữa A và B
Example: There’s a clear distinction between
4. Discrepancy (n) /dɪˈskrep.ən.si/: a difference between two things that should be the same: sự khác nhau (không nhất quán)
Example: There is some discrepancy between the two accounts.
5. Tell the difference (n) /ˈdɪf.ər.əns/: are comparing are not the same: chỉ ra sự khác biệt
Example: What’s the difference between an ape and a monkey?
6. Tell sth/sb apart = to be able to see the difference
Example: As babies, the twins looked so much alike that I just couldn't tell them apart.
7. Differ (v) /ˈdɪf.ər/: to be not like something or someone else, either physically or in another way: khác nhau
Example: The twins look alike, but they differ in temperament.
8. Contrast (n) /ˈkɒn.trɑːst/: an obvious difference between two or more things: sự tương phản
Example: I like the contrast of the white trousers
9. Discriminate (v) /dɪˈskrɪm.ɪ.neɪt/: to be able to see the difference
Example: Police dogs can discriminate between the different smells.
10. Be like chalk and cheese = If two people are like chalk and cheese, they are completely different from each other: hoàn toàn khác biệt
Example: My brother and I are like chalk and cheese.
11. Similar (a) /ˈsɪm.ɪ.lər/: looking or being almost, but not exactly, the same: tương tự
Example: I bought some new shoes which are very similar to a pair I had before.
12. Identical to (a) /aɪˈden.tɪ.kəl/: exactly the same, or very similar: như nhau
Example: The tests are identical to those carried out last year.
