1. Challenging (a) /ˈtʃæl.ɪn.dʒɪŋ/:difficult, in a way that tests your ability or determination – thách thức
Example: This has been a challenging time for us all.
 
 
2. Tough (a) /tʌf/: difficult to do or to deal with – khó
Example: They’ve had an exceptionally tough life.
 
 
3. Tricky (a) /ˈtrɪk.i/: If a piece of work or problem is tricky, it is difficult to deal with and needs careful attention or skill – khó
Example: It’s tricky to learn to ride a skateboard, but you never forget how.
 
 
4. Punishing (a) /ˈpʌn.ɪ.ʃɪŋ/: very difficult and making you feel tired – kiệt sức
Example: Currently she has a punishing schedule of five presentations a day.
 
 
5. Arduous (a) /ˈɑː.dʒu.əs/: difficult, needing a lot of effort and energy – khó khăn, gian khổ
Example: an arduous climb/task/journey
 
 
6. Strenuous (a) /ˈstren.ju.əs/: needing or using a lot of physical or mental effort or energy – căng thẳng, vất vả
Example: His doctor advised him not to do any strenuous exercise.
