1. Allege (v) /əˈledʒ/: to say that someone has done something illegal or wrong without giving proof: cáo buộc
Example: The two men allege (that) the police forced them to make false confessions
 
 
2. Commit (v) /kəˈmɪt/: to do something illegal or something that is considered wrong: phạm tội 
Example: to commit an offence
 
 
3. Convict (v) /kənˈvɪkt/: to decide officially in a law court that someone is guilty of a crime: kết án
Example: He has twice been convicted of robbery/arson.
 
 
4. Motive (n) /ˈməʊ.tɪv/: a reason for doing something: động cơ
Example: Why would she have killed him? She has no motive.
 
 
5. Notorious (a) /nəʊˈtɔː.ri.əs/: famous for something bad: khét tiếng
Example: one of Mexico's most notorious criminals
 
 
6. Organized crime (n) /ˌɔː.ɡən.aɪzd ˈkraɪm/: criminal organizations that plan and commit crime, or the crimes that are committed by such organizations: đường dây/ tổ chức tội phạm
Example: The murders may have been linked to organized crime.
 
 
7. Street crime = a loose term for any criminal offense in a public place: tội phạm đường phố
 
 
8. Criminal record (n) /ˌkrɪm.ɪ.nəl ˈrek.ɔːd/: an official record of crimes that a person has committed: tiền án tiền sử
Example: They fired him when they found out he had a criminal record.
 
 
9. Juvenile delinquency (n) /ˌdʒuː.vən.aɪl dɪˈlɪŋ.kwən.si/: crime that is committed by young people: tội phạm vị thành niên 
Example: Lack of parental control is seen to lie behind drug abuse and juvenile delinquency.
 
 
10. A convicted criminal = someone declared officially in a court of law to be guilty of a crime: tội nhân bị kết án 
 
 
11. Petty crime (n) /ˌpet.i ˈkraɪm/: a type of crime that is not considered serious when compared with some other crimes: trộm vặt
Example: petty crime such as shoplifting
 
 
12. Joyrider (n) /ˈdʒɔɪˌraɪ.dər/: a person who drives fast and dangerously for pleasure, especially in a stolen vehicle: đánh cắp xe, lái xe bạt mạng
Example: He was hit by a car that was being driven by joyriders.
 
 
13. Political prisoner (n) /pəˌlɪt.ɪ.kəl ˈprɪz.ən.ər/: someone who is put in prison for expressing disapproval of their own government, or for belonging to an organization, race, or social group not approved of by that government: tù nhân chính trị
 
 
14. Burglar (n) /ˈbɜː.ɡlər/: a person who illegally enters buildings and steals things: trộm đột nhập 
 
 
15. Arsonist (n) /ˈɑː.sən.ɪst/ =  fire-raiser = a person who intentionally starts a fire in order to damage or destroy something, especially a building: kẻ đốt phá
Example: Police are blaming arsonists for the spate of fires in the Greenfields housing estate.
 
 
16. Sex crime (n) /ˈseks ˌkraɪm/: a crime that involves some form of sexual behaviour
Example: A common myth is that it is mainly older men who commit sex crimes such as child molesting and exhibitionism.
 
 
17. Vandalism (n) /ˈvæn.dəl.ɪ.zəm/:  any activity that is considered to be damaging or destroying something that was good: sự phá hoại
Example: Cutting down the old forest was an act of vandalism.
 
 
18. Crime rate (n) /ˈkraɪm ˌreɪt/: the number of crimes that are committed during a period of time in a particular place: tỉ lệ tội phạm
Example: The overall crime rate was down 11.9% last year.
 
 
19. Crime wave (n) /ˈkraɪm ˌweɪv/: a sudden increase in the number of crimes: làn sóng tội phạm
