Do you like taking photographs/pictures? (What kinds of photos do you like to take?)

Answer 1: Yes, for sure. I’m particularly fond of taking portrait photography. That’s why I love searching for some striking places to take photos. Capturing the faces of my friends and even strangers, and collecting these unique moments is endlessly fascinating to me. It’s often said that “eyes are the windows to the soul”, and I’m always reminded of this when I’m trying to take a decent photograph of somebody.  

Answer 2: Yes I do, very much so. I’m particularly fond of taking travel photography, especially when I have a chance to travel to anywhere. To me, we take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone. I actually often use my handy digital camera to captures those beautiful precious moments in life.

Answer 3: Absolutely yes! Food and scenery are definitely my inspiration. I just can’t sit still when beautiful breakfasts and stunning landscape keep appearing on my Instagram everyday. So I do learn some techniques to produce stunning scenery photos because I want my photos to look unique, lively and professional.

Which of your photos do you like the best?

Answer 1: My absolute favourite photograph that I’ve taken is of a taxi in Hong Kong. I was standing on a bridge and looking down at the road. I knew that the bright red roof of the taxis, combined with the golden light of the late afternoon, would create a striking image, so I waited for about 20 minutes for a taxi to pass beneath me. Patience is a virtue, and eventually I got the perfect shot. 

Answer 2: My absolute favourite photograph that I’ve taken is when I traveled to Ulesa resort with my best friend - Tra. It was the photo of a striking sunset harmonised with magnificent mountainous view. This beautiful photo always evokes my memory of sweet memories of the trip.

Do you take photos of yourself?

Answer 1: Honestly, I don’t. This is in part because the camera I use is ancient and difficult to operate, so it requires you to remain on the other side of the lens, looking through the viewfinder and adjusting the settings. The other reason is simply because I feel self-conscious in front of cameras. Possibly, I am not really photogenic as well (lol). Even if i’m taking a selfie I find it difficult to feel relaxed and at ease. 

Answer 2: Yes, I do. I really love taking photos myself. I feel really entertaining when taking a lot of selfies and can see how ridiculous my facial expressions look like as well as check find the best angle for my face to produce the best shot. 

Would you like to learn how to take better photos?

Certainly, I’m always keen to improve my skills, but photography classes generally cost an arm and a leg. Fortunately, these days it’s easy to find useful tips online. You can follow other photographers on platforms such as instagram and Flickr for inspiration, read blogs about different cameras and techniques, and watch videos that cover every aspect of the subject in great detail. 

Vocabulary highlights:

Example: He’s good-looking, but he's not as striking as his brother.(Anh ấy đẹp trai, nhưng anh ấy không nổi bật như anh trai mình.)

3. Portrait noun /ˈpɔː.trət/ = a painting, photograph, drawing, etc. of a person or, less commonly, of a group of people: chân dung

Example: She’s commissioned an artist to paint her portrait/paint a portrait of her. (Cô ấy đã ủy thác cho một họa sĩ vẽ chân dung của mình / vẽ chân dung của cô ấy.)

4. Photography noun /fəˈtɒɡ.rə.fi/ = the activity or job of taking photographs or filming:

Example: She’s taking an evening class in photography. (Cô ấy tham gia một lớp học buổi tối về nhiếp ảnh.)

5. Capture verb /ˈkæp.tʃər/ = to record or take a picture of something using a camera: nắm bắt được

Example: A passer-by captured the whole incident on film.(Một người qua đường đã chụp lại toàn bộ sự việc trên phim.)

6. Precious adjective/ˈpreʃ.əs/ = of great value because of being rare, expensive, or important: quý báu/ quý giá

Example: a precious moment/memory

7. Inspiration noun/ˌɪn.spɪˈreɪ.ʃən/ =  someone or something that gives you ideas for doing something: nguồn cảm hứng

Example: He went to church, perhaps seeking divine inspiration.(Anh đến nhà thờ, có lẽ tìm kiếm cảm hứng thiêng liêng.)

8. Landscape noun/ˈlænd.skeɪp/ = a large area of countryside, especially in relation to its appearance: cảnh đẹp

Example: The landscape is dotted with the tents of campers and hikers.(Phong cảnh được điểm xuyết bằng những chiếc lều của người cắm trại và người đi bộ.)

9. Stunning adjective/ˈstʌn.ɪŋ/ = extremely beautiful or attractive: tuyệt đẹp, tuyệt trần

Example: a stunning view over the bay of Saint Tropez (một cảnh quan tuyệt đẹp trên vịnh Saint Tropez)

10. Scenery noun /ˈsiː.nər.i/ = the general appearance of the natural: cảnh đẹp

Example: They stopped at the top of the hill to admire the scenery. (Họ dừng lại trên đỉnh đồi để ngắm cảnh)

11. Virtue noun/ˈvɜː.tʃuː/ = a good moral quality in a person, or the general quality of being morally good: đức tính tốt

15. Viewfinder noun /ˈvjuːˌfaɪn.dər/ = the partof a camera that you look through to see what it is that you are taking a photograph of: khe nhìn trên máy ảnh
16. Self-conscious adjective/ˌselfˈkɒn.ʃəs/ = nervous or uncomfortable because you are worried about what people think about you or your actions: lo lắng (không thoải mái)

Example: He looked uncomfortable, like a self-conscious adolescent.

17. Selfie noun /ˈsel.fi/ =a photograph that you take of yourself , usually with a mobile phone. Selfies are often published using social media: ảnh tự sướng (tự chụp)

Example: He posted a series of close-up selfies on his Instagram yesterday. (Anh ấy đã đăng một loạt ảnh tự chụp lên Instagram của mình ngày hôm qua.)
