Do you have any plants in your home?

Answer 1: Yes, we have a lot of cactuses and succulents, some herbs to use in cooking, and also some bamboo. I would like to have more plants but right now I only have a small terrace so there’s not enough space to grow as many things as I would like.

Answer 2: Yes, I do have some cactuses and flowering plants such as a tulip and a lily in a pot and some beautiful hanging baskets on a balcony as well. They are are extremely beautiful and they indeed uplift my spirits day by day. To me, growing plans are such a pleasurable hobby so I wish I could have a garden in the future to grow more plants and vegetables.

Do you know much about gardening

Answer 1: Actually, I’m a bit clueless about gardening. When I was younger, my father would try to persuade me help him grow fruit and vegetables, but back then I couldn’t care less about gardening. However, recently I’ve found myself becoming more and more interested in gardening. Partly this is because I’m interested in eating organic food, and am wary of pesticides and preservatives that are commonly used in this country.

Answer 2Not a bit. You know most people who live in a big city like Hanoi, we all live in apartments or in high-rise buildings with limited space. Having a garden seems like a fancy thing unless some well-off families, who can afford a villa so they can have the luxury of having their own garden. Therefore, I literally have little idea about gardening except some fundamental knowledge about pruning, spraying or re-potting.

Is gardening popular in your country?

I think gardening has always been popular with older generations in my country. But now millennials such as myself are becoming increasingly interested in horticulture as a hobby. As I mentioned previously, maybe it is related to the fact that more people are conscious of clean eating and the benefits of consuming healthy fruit and vegetables that are free of chemicals. It’s also a good excuse to get away from computer screens and other devices that cause stress, and instead spend some time outside on a sunny day.

How would you react if you were given a plant as a gift?

I’d be thrilled (or: blissfully happy) to be given a plant as a gift. Cactuses are the perfect gift because they’re so easy to nurture and take care of. They don’t need a lot of water and can survive almost any weather. Last summer however, I was given a strawberry plant as a gift and keeping it alive became an arduous and laborious taskUltimately, I failed, I think because the weather was so swelteringly hot.

Why is it important to grow plants

Quite frankly, as humans we need to grow plants to survive. So it’s not only important but vital. However, on a smaller scale I think it’s important to take care of something other than ourselves. Even something as simple as growing a plant, watering it daily and ensuring it stays healthy, is a small act of kindness that I believe is good for the world, and good for our souls. On top of thatgreen plants can provide not only fresh air but also brighten up your day
