Who gives advice to you at school/work?
I’m lucky to have a lot of people around me who give me advice at work. My boss, as well as colleagues, and even junior members staff are always happy to offer their advice. That’s not to say that I always take their advice and run with it. Sometimes i disagree, but all the same I’m very happy to hear other people’s opinions about the best way to do something.
What do you think about people who give advice, but never accept any advice?
Yeah you know, some people can dish it out but they can’t take it. I’m not really a fan of these people because I guess they tend to be a bit narrow-minded and lack self awareness. Having said that, in general, I’m pretty easy going so I don’t let that kind of thing bother me.
What type of people work for groups that give advice?
Well, probably people who are driven by a strong desire to help others and are also confident in their ability to do so. I think they would also need to be naturally empathetic and accustomed to working with all kinds of people from different social and cultural backgrounds.
Are young people capable of giving good advice?
Of course. I do think that wisdom, although associated with older individuals, is not dependent on age. So yes, I think young people are able to give great advice, especially in subjects such as technology and social trends, that young people are generally more clued up on. That being said, I do value experience highly and so am probably more likely to listen to advice of older people who have more practical knowledge.
Are there any communities or groups that give advice in your city?
In terms of general life advice, I’m not aware of any communities that to that sort of thing in my city. Historically, I guess it would be the role of religious groups but these days less people are devoutly religious and therefore less likely to turn to these communities for guidance. If you need financial or legal advice however, there are professionals who charge for these specific services. Counselors and therapists can also give advice to people about how best to make positive changes in their lives.
