Trong tiếng Anh có vô vàn những từ có những âm câm (silent) khiến chúng mình nghe cũng như bị phát âm sai. Đừng lo sẽ có 1 số quy tắc nhất định chúng mình có thể học. Nay chúng mình cùng học các quy tắc với chữ cái B nhé
- Letter “B” is silent before T or after M: Chữ “B” sẽ không được phát âm trước chữ “T” và hoặc chữ “M”. Cùng xem các ví dụ bên dưới và chắc chắn rằng từ giờ mình sẽ không phát âm sai các từ này nữa nhé. Đa số có đến 90% nhiều bạn phát âm sai từ Climbing, Debt hay Doubt nên các bạn hãy đặc biệt chú ý.
- Exceptions: có 2 trường hợp ngoại lệ cho quy tắc trên là từ OBTAIN và từ REMEMBER /rɪˈmem.bər/ (chữ B vẫn được phát âm)
1. Debt (n) /det/: something, especially money, that is owed to someone else, or the state of owing something: khoản nợExample: He managed to pay off his debts in two years.
2. Doubt (n) /daʊt/: (a feeling of) not being certain about something, especially about how good or true it is: nghi ngờ
Example: I’m having doubts about his ability to do the job.
Example: If there's any doubt about the rocket's engines, we ought to cancel the launch.
3. Comb (n) /kəʊm/: a flat piece of plastic, wood, or metal with a thin row of long, narrow parts along one side, used to tidy and arrange your hair: cái lược
4. Tomb (n) /tuːm/: a large stone structure or underground room where someone, especially an important person, is buried: lăng mộ
5. Womb (n) /wuːm/: the organ in the body of a woman or other female mammal in which a baby develops before birth: dạ con, ruột
Example: Researchers are looking at how a mother's health can affect the baby in the womb.
6. Plumber (n) /ˈplʌm.ər/: a person whose job is to supply and connect or repair water pipes, baths, toilets, etc.: thợ sửa ống nước
Example: When is the plumber coming to repair the burst pipe?
7. Lamb (n) /læm/: a young sheep, or the flesh of a young sheep eaten as meat: còn cừu, thịt cừu
Example: lamb chops / roast lamb
8. Crumb (n) /krʌm/: a very small piece of bread, cake, or biscuit: miếng, mảnh vụn
9. Climbing (n) /ˈklaɪ.mɪŋ/ = rock climbing = the sport of climbing on rocks or in mountains: Leo núi
Example: Chris has just taken up climbing.
10. Limb (n) /lɪm/: an arm or leg of a person or animal: chân, tay
Example: The accident victims mostly had injuries to their lower limbs (= legs).
11. Numb (a) /nʌm/: If a part of your body is numb, you are unable to feel it, usually for a short time: tê cóng
Example: My fingers were numb with cold.
12. Thumb (n) /θʌm/: the short, thick finger on the side of your hand that makes it possible to hold and pick things up easily: ngón tay cái
13. Subtle (a) /ˈsʌt.əl/: not loud, bright, noticeable, or obvious in any way: phảng phất
Example: The room was painted a subtle shade of pink.
14. Bomb (n) /bɒm/: a weapon that explodes and is used to kill or hurt people or to damage buildings: bom
Example: A 100-pound bomb exploded/went off today, injuring three people.
