1. Do you think beauty is important in our society?

Yes, I think it’s clear that beauty is very highly valued in our society. You only have to take a look popular films, TV commercials, and the music industry to realise how much of an impact beauty has on every aspect of our culture. I think the importance of beauty is continually supported by the media industry and this in turn creates a societal obsession with the subject. Understandably, beauty products and plastic surgery are prosperous industries now. 

2. Is it good that people give so much importance to beauty?

No, i think it’s pretty concerning actually and would create a very shallow society. Putting such an emphasis on aesthetics and body image creates a widespread anxiety around the subject which can be toxic, especially in the minds of young people who are typically very self-conscious about the way that they look. This constant reinforcement of the imperativeness of beauty is dangerous and cantrigger countless mental health issues such as depression, body dysmorphia, and eating disorders.      

3. Are clothes important to a person’s success?

Clothes might not be vital to a person’s success but I think they certainly contribute. If you are looking to get ahead in the workplace or you are going to have an interview or any professional engagements, making sure you look the part is surely advantageous. Dressing in scruffy or casual clothes could send a visual message of apathy and even incompetence.    

4. Are fashion shows really necessary?

Not really! If designers were to attend every market appointment, they wouldn’t have time to actually work. Designers should just produce amazing digital look books”. Having said that, it’s true that fashion shows not only give designers and brands a platform to show off their creative flair at exciting and entertaining events. They have also become formidable tools in managing relationships with buyers and the press. Interestingly, fashion shows also create numerous opportunities for content. Not only for brands, but for editors, retailers, bloggers and celebrities, who capitalise on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to share their own personal experiences, which directly further press back to the brand.
