Từ THROW trong tiếng Anh vừa là động từ và danh từ với nghĩa là ném hay cú ném. Nay IELTS Trangbec đã liệt kê rõ các cụm thông dụng nhất, chúng mình cùng take note, tổng kết theo chủ đề để nhớ được từ rõ ràng theo hệ thống hơn.
 
1. Throw a glance/look = to look quickly or suddenly: nhìn liếc qua
Example: The boy threw a frightened look in the direction of the house. 
 
 
2. Throw a party = to have a party: tổ chức ăn mừng
Example: Flavio threw a party for Colin's 50th birthday. 
 
 
3. I WOULDN’T TRUST HIM AS FAR AS I COULD THROW HIM/HER = you don’t trust somebody at all: tôi không tin tưởng anh ấy/cô ấy
Example: “I don’t trust used car salesmen as far as I could throw them.”
 
 
4. A stone’s throw (away) = a short distance: rất gần 
Example: The animal was sitting just a stone's throw away from us.
 
 
5. Throw a fit/tantrum = to experience and show a strong feeling of anger, especially suddenly: nổi cơn tam bành
Example: My mother threw a fit when she saw what a mess we'd made of her kitchen. 
 
 
6. Throw your money around = to spend a lot of money, especially in a way that shows people you are not worried about money: ném tiền cửa sổ 
Example: Despite the biggest recession in over a decade, city professionals still seem to have plenty of money to throw around.
 
 
7. Throw someone in jail = to put someone in prison: tống ai đó vào tù 
Example: They don't throw anyone in jail for parking illegally, but they will tow your car and charge you a fine.
 
 
8. Throw cold water on sth = to be negative about someone's ideas or plans: gội gáo nước lạnh lên ai đó
Example: You’re always throwing cold water on my suggestions.
 
 
9. Throw sb under the bus = to do something harmful to someone else in order to gain an advantage for yourself: dùng ai đó làm vật hy sinh để bạn đạt mục đích riêng cho mình. 
Example: I’m not going to throw my friend under the bus for something he did 25 years ago.
 
 
10. Throw sth away — phrasal verb  /θrəʊ/: to waste a skill or opportunity: vứt bỏ/vuột mất cái gì..
Example: You’ve spent three years working hard in college - don't throw it all away.
