Có rất nhiều truyền thống lạ vẫn còn tồn tại trong xã hội hiện đại hiện nay và nhiều khi chúng ta vẫn chưa giải thích được. Ví dụ những truyền thống ở Việt Nam như hoá vàng (burn fake money) hay tục xông nhà vào nắm mới, hay tục cướp vợ ở Sapa chẳng hạn thì mem sẽ phải dùng khác nhiều các từ liên quan đến sự dị thường, khác thường hay không thể giải thích nổi. 
 
1. Unusual (a) /ʌnˈjuː.ʒu.əl/: different from others of the same type in a way that is surprising, interesting, or attractive: lạ thường
Example: It’s unusual to have adult conversation like that with such a young child.
 
 
2. Strange (a) /streɪndʒ/: unusual and unexpected, or difficult to understand: lạ thường
Example: It’s strange that tourists almost never visit this village.
 
 
3. Unique (a) /juːˈniːk/: being the only existing one of its type or, more generally, unusual, or special in some way: độc đáo
Example: I’d recognize your handwriting anywhere - it's unique.
 
 
4. Quirky (a) /ˈkwɜː.ki/: unusual in an attractive and interesting way: dị thường 
Example: He was tall and had a quirky, off-beat sense of humour.
 
 
5. Odd (a) /ɒd/: strange or unexpected: kỳ cục
Example: What an odd thing to say.
 
 
6. Bizarre (a) /bɪˈzɑːr/: very strange and unusual: kỳ quái
Example: a bizarre situation
 
 
7. Creepy (a) /ˈkri·pi/: strange and slightly frightening: rùng mình
Example: a creepy old house
 
 
8. Eccentric (a) /ɪkˈsen.trɪk/: strange or unusual, sometimes in a humorous way: dị lập 
Example: eccentric clothes
 
 
9. Far out (a) /ˌfɑːr ˈaʊt/: strange and unusual: khác thường
Example: I’ve seen the video - it's pretty far out.
 
 
10. Kooky (a) /ˈkuː.ki/: (especially of a person) strange in his or her appearance or behaviour, especially in a way that is interesting: lập dị
Example: She’s got this kooky, high-pitched voice.
 
 
11. Outlandish (a) /ˌaʊtˈlæn.dɪʃ/: strange and unusual and difficult to accept or like: lạ lùng 
Example: an outlandish hairstyle/outfit
 
 
12. Peculiar (a) /pɪˈkjuː.li.ər/: unusual and strange, sometimes in an unpleasant way: khác thường
Example: She has the most peculiar ideas.
 
 
13. Magical (a) /ˈmædʒ.ɪ.kəl/: produced by or using magic: ảo diệu 
Example: Diamonds were once thought to have magical powers.
 
 
14. Mysterious (a) /mɪˈstɪə.ri.əs/: strange, not known, or not understood: huyền bí 
Example: She’s an actress whose inner life has remained mysterious.
