Từ GENERATION ở level B1 đã được học với hàm ý thế hệ đã được khá nhiều bạn biết đến với cách nói generation gap - khoảng cách thế hệ. Cụm này chúng mình đã dùng khá nhiều trong các bài thi ielts topic family (gia đình rồi). Tuy nhiên nhiều bạn còn chưa phân biệt được sự khác nhau giữa gen x, y và z hay thế hệ alpha mới tinh đó ạ, cùng ielts trangbec học ngay thôi.
1. The generation gap (n) /dʒen.əˈreɪ.ʃən ˌɡæp/: a situation in which older and younger people do not understand each other because of their different experiences, opinions, habits, and behaviour
Example: She’s a young politician who manages to bridge/cross (= understand both groups in) the generation gap.
2. Generation X (n) /ˌdʒen.ə ˈreɪ.ʃən ˈeks/: a way of referring to the group of people who were born in the 1960s and 1970s: thế hệ bùng nổ dân số
Example: Members of Generation X are often portrayed as having no clear direction to their lives.
3. Baby boomer (n) /ˈbeɪ·bi ˌbu·mər/: a person born during a baby boom in the us between 1947 and 1961: thời kỳ bùng nổ trẻ sơ sinh
Example: Like typical baby boomers, they're making different choices than those of their parents' generation.
4. Generation Y (n) /ˌdʒen.ə ˈreɪ.ʃən ˈwaɪ/: a way of referring to the group of people who were born in the 1980s and early 1990s: chỉ những người sinh ra trong thập niên 80 và đầu thập niên 90.
Example: Generation Y, the baby-boomers' children, will be the most adept ever with emerging technology.
5. Generation Z (n): the group of people who were born in the us and western europe after 2001: nhóm nhân khẩu học nằm giữa thế hệ millennials và thế hệ alpha.
Example: Generation Z has been called as the 'silent generation' because of the time they will spend online.
6. Generation alpha: nhóm nhân khẩu học nằm sau thế hệ z, thế hệ đầu tiên được sinh ra hoàn toàn trong thế kỷ 21 và thiên niên kỷ 3. Hầu hết các thành viên của thế hệ alpha đều là con cái của thế hệ millennials.
7. The older generation: thế hệ già
Example: They have all got a story, especially the older generation.
8. The younger generation: thế hệ trẻ
Example: He pointed out one example of the work of the younger generation.
9. Future generations: thế hệ tương lai
Example: Future generations are the generations of people to come in the future
