Topic MATHS vẫn đang được hỏi ở các bài nói IELTS Speaking kể cả part 1 lẫn 2 rất nhiều. Để làm tốt topic này chúng mình cần trang bị nhóm vocab toán học cơ bản để nói cho chính xác cũng như đạt được điểm số cao nhất.
 
1. Algebra (n) /ˈæl.dʒə.brə/: a part of mathematics in which signs and letters represent numbers: đại số học
 
2. Arithmetic (n) /əˈrɪθ.mə.tɪk/: the part of mathematics that involves the adding and multiplying, etc. of numbers: số học
Example: I’ve never been very good at arithmetic.
 
 
3. Equation (n) /ɪˈkweɪ.ʒən/: a mathematical statement in which you show that two amounts are equal using mathematical symbols: phương trình
Example: In the equation 3x - 3 = 15, x = 6.
 
 
4. Subtraction (n) /səbˈtræk.ʃən/: the process of removing one number from another - phép trừ 
Example: The test involves simple calculations, such as addition and subtraction.
 
 
5. Addition (n) /əˈdɪʃ.ən/: the process of adding numbers or amounts together: phép cộng
Example: Twice a week the children are tested in basic mathematical skills such as addition (= calculating the total of different numbers put together) and subtraction.
 
 
6. Multiplication (n) /ˌmʌl.tɪ.plɪˈkeɪ.ʃən/: the process of adding a number to itself a particular number of times, or a calculation in which this is done: phép nhân
Example: I was good at maths and had no trouble with multiplication and division.
 
 
7. Division (n)  /dɪˈvɪʒ.ən/: the process of finding the number of times one number is contained within another - phép chia
 
 
8. Multiplication table (n) /mʌl.tɪ.plɪˈkeɪ.ʃən ˌteɪ.bəl/: a list that shows the results of multiplying one number by a set of other numbers, usually from one to twelve, used especially by children at school: bảgn cửu chương
 
 
9. Abacus (n) /ˈæb.ə.kəs/: a square or rectangular frame holding an arrangement of small balls on metal rods or wires, used for counting or for doing calculations: bàn tính
 
 
10. Calculator (n) /ˈkæl.kjə.leɪ.tər/: a small electronic device that is used for doing calculations: máy tính
Example: a pocket calculator
 
 
11. Calculus (n) /ˈkæl.kjə.ləs/: an area of advanced mathematics in which continuously changing values are studied: vi tích phân
 
 
12. Cardinal (number) (n) /ˈkɑr·dən·əl/: a number like 1, 2, 3 that represents amount, rather than position in a list: số đếm
 
 
13. Decimal (a) /ˈdes.ɪ.məl/: relating to or expressed in a system of counting based on the number ten: số thập phân
Example: If you calculate the result to two decimal places (= give two numbers after the decimal point, as in 3.65), that should minimize any possible errors.
 
 
14. Even Numbers = Any integer that can be divided exactly by 2 is an even number: số chẵn (The last digit is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8)
 
 
15. Odd Numbers = Any integer that cannot be divided exactly by 2 is an odd number: số lẻ (The last digit is 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9).
