Cue card part 2 của IELTS Speaking quý 1/2021 có đang hỏi các bạn về “DESCRIBE A TIME THAT YOU GAVE ADVICE TO SOMEONE” - hãy kể 1 lần bạn đưa lời khuyên cho ai đó. Để làm tốt topic này chúng mình cần học các cụm từ và thành ngữ hữu dụng bên dưới mà chúng mình đã liệt kê nhé
1. Don’t bite off more than you can chew = never take on a task that will be too big for you or that you know you will not be able to complete: đừng cố quá
Example: Set goals for yourself but don’t bite off more than you can chew!
2. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch = You should not count on something until it has begun or until you are very sure of it: Bạn không nên chắc chắn một điều gì đó trước khi nó thực sự diễn ra.
Example: She wanted to buy a dress in case someone asked her to the dance, but I told her not to count her chickens before they hatched.
3. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush = said when you recognize that you should not risk losing something you already have by trying to get something you think might be better: ên bằng lòng và trân trọng những gì mình đang có
Example: After all, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
4. Rome wasn’t built in a day = you need to be patient and do things slowly and the end result will be beautiful, just like Rome: hãy kiên nhẫn!
Example: I was told to have patience since Rome was not built in one day.
5. Practical advice: lời khuyên thực tế
Example: It was probably the most practical advice anyone could give an actor.
6. Sensible/ Sound advice: lời khuyên đúng đắn/ hợp lý
Example: She confided in a friend who gave her a piece of sound advice
7. Valuable advice: lời khuyên quý báu
Example: We started discussing my plans and he gave me lots of valuable advice.
8. Unsolicited advice: Lời khuyên không mong muốn
Example: How dare I not take her unsolicited advice on the use of a cooking oil!
9. Never give advice unless asked = A warning against giving
Example: Oh, never give advice unless asked. Unsolicited advice usually ends up annoying the person more than anything.
