Khi trong một cuộc hội thoại, thông tin bạn tiếp nhận quá dài dòng và vòng vo, chúng mình thường hay nói “To cut a long story short”. Để làm cho ngôn ngữ thêm phong phú, nay IELTS Trang Bec cung cấp đến bạn 5 cách nói “to cut a long story short” bên dưới:
1. To cut a long story short = to make a long story short = long story short = used when you are explaining what happened in a few words, without giving all the details: nói tóm gọn lại thì….
Example: He wanted to be a doctor but, to cut a long story short, he ended up as a pharmacist.
2. To make a long story short = used when you are explaining what happened in a few words, without giving all the details: nói tóm lại thì….
Example: We started going out and, to make a long story short, we ended up getting serious about one another.
3. Cut to the chase = to talk about or deal with the important parts of a subject and not waste time with things that are not important
Example: I didn't have long to talk so I cut to the chase and asked whether he was still married.
4. In a nutshell = using as few words as possible - tóm lại
Example: Well, to put it in a nutshell, we're lost.
5. In brief = In summary; to say it briefly: nói tóm gọn thì…
Example: The film was, in brief, dull.
