1. Have a sharp tongue = to be someone who often criticizes and speaks in a severe way: đanh đá
Example: Jane has a sharp tongue, so be warned.
2. On the tip of your tongue = about to be said if you can remember it: suýt nhớ ra
Example: I know her - her name is on the tip of my tongue, but it won't come to me.
3. Has the cat got your tongue? = something you say to someone when you are annoyed because they will not speak: sao bạn im thin thít thế?
Example: What’s the matter? Has the cat got your tongue?
4. Tongue-twister (n) /ˈtʌŋˌtwɪs.tər/: a sentence or phrase that is intended to be difficult to say, especially when repeated quickly and often: cụm từ khó phát âm
Example: ”She sells seashells on the seashore" is a well-known tongue-twister.
5. Silver-tongued (a) /ˌsɪl.vəˈtʌŋd/: If you are silver-tongued, you are good at persuading people to do things: có tài hùng biện, thuyết phục được người nghe
Example: With a sharp mind and witty words, the silver-tongued diplomat skillfully coped with the tough questions from the press
6. Hold your tongue = Bite your tongue = to not speak: giữ im lặng
Example: Hold your tongue, young man!
7. Mother tongue (n) /ˌmʌð.ə ˈtʌŋ/: the first language that you learn when you are a baby, rather than a language learned at school or as an adult
