Từ TRACK là 1 từ khá thú vị trong tiếng Anh vừa đóng vai trò là danh từ cũng như động từ với nghĩa “dấu vết”, hay truy tìm dấu vết. Tuy nhiên khi ghép với các cụm từ thì nó lại biến thành thành ngữ và nghĩa hoàn toàn khác.
1. On the right track = doing something correctly or well: làm đúng
Example: You haven't quite got the answer yet, but you're on the right track.
2. On the wrong track = not correctabout something: đi sai hướng
Example: If you suspect my son was involved, you are on the wrong track.
3. Keep track (of sth) = to keep a record of something, or make certain that you know or remember what has happened: lưu giữ
Example: Keep track of the hours you work.
4. Lose track (of sth) = to stop keeping a record of something, or stop being certain that you know or remember what has happened: mất liên lạc/kết nối với ai/cái gì.
Example: I have lost track of the number of times you have been late this month.
5. On track = making progress and likely to succeed or achieve a particular thing: làm tốt
Example: They’re on track to make record profits.
6. Get off the track = to start talking about something that is not part of what you should be talking about: Bị phân tán/mất tập trung;
Example: I think we're getting off the track here - we're supposed to be discussing our advertising campaign.
7. Track sb/sth down /træk/: to find something or someone after looking for them in a lot of different places: truy tìm
Example: He finally managed to track down the papers he wanted.
