1. Terrified (a) /ˈter.ə.faɪd/ = very frightened:
Example: She’s terrified (that) her mother might find out her secret.
 
 
2. Frightened (a) /ˈfraɪ.tənd/ = feeling fear or worry:
Example: The police officer found a frightened child in the hut.
 
3. Fearful (a) /ˈfɪə.fəl/ = frightened or worried about something:
Example: She’s fearful (that) she may lose custody of her children.
 
 
4. Petrified (a) /ˈpet.rə.faɪd/ = extremely frightened:
Example: She’s petrified of being on her own in the house at night.
 
5. Horrified (a) /ˈhɒr.ɪ.faɪd/ = very shocked
Example: We were horrified at/by the size of the bill.
 
 
6. Horror-struck (a) /ˈhɒr.əˌstrʌk/ = extremely shocked and frightened
Example: They watched, horror-struck, as the car came off the road.
