Sample answer:
Thanks to the globalisation and advancements in technology, international trade has been flourishing more than ever before. Therefore, imported food has gained tremendous popularity among consumers. Although there are some potential drawbacks of foreign food, I would argue that there are far more benefits.
The main drawback of the trend towards importing food is that it is highly likely to add to the problem of climate change and the concerns about the overuse of chemical additives. Firstly, in fact how we eat has created a huge impact on climate change. This is due to the method of transportation. Foreign foods are often transported by air and require refrigeration to keep them fresh, therefore, increasing air pollution from exhaust fumes. Additionally, some foods which are shipped internationally tend to require excessive artificial ripening or chemical preservatives. As a consequence, it may create health problems and decrease the nutritional potential.
Despite the negatives mentioned above, I believe that there are an abundance of merits that imported foods offer. One distinct benefit is the fact that importing foods offers consumers a wider variety of food choices. Thanks to imported food, we can enjoy numerous off season foods such as fresh bananas or kiwis all year around no matter where we are. Having access to a variety of dietary choices also means that people can eat highly nourishing meals that are not available in their locality. On top of that, food imports create a free market with competition in food quality and price between global producers. For that reason, customers can take advantage of eating imported food which is often cheaper and better than the locally grown ones due to better farming and processing technology.
In conclusion, while I recognise the possible disadvantages of international food, I consider it to be a positive development overall. As a result, we should embrace this development rather than rejecting it. (32 words)
